Small Business Owner Success Strategies: What Is Your Time Really Worth And Why You Should Buy Some

You're busy enough with running your business. Yet you're frantically working on your website, and on trying to market yourself online. You're running yourself ragged. Are you really spending your time wisely?

Think about it. You may be a financial advisor or a CPA. You know your work, and you're good at it. You also know that some of your clients may try to do it themselves, in order to spend money.

Yet after weeks and maybe months of trying, often with less than stellar results, they come to you and have you do the work after all. They could have chosen an easier path - and saved themselves a lot of time. And, well, money.

Time IS Money

The truth is, that old saying really has validity: Time really is money. Do a little math and figure out what your time is worth.

Let's say you charge $100 an hour. And then you spend 50 hours trying to set up your own online marketing campaign. That's $5,000. And you may feel smug and believe you just saved a few hundred (or even a couple of thousand) dollars by doing it yourself.

But have you really saved money. Imagine what you could have done with those 50 hours?

Even if you had spent them relaxing and hanging out with your family, wouldn't that have been a wiser way to spend your time than wrestling with something you don't really know how to do?

Division of Labor

You know all about division of labor. You do people's taxes because you KNOW how to do it. Or you help them invest their money because that's your area of expertise. And you're not going to entrust your new BMW to the neighborhood kid to fix unless he happens to be an expert at fixing German cars.

And when you get sick and have a problem with your cardiovascular system, you go see a specialist, not your general practitioner down the street.

Note the word "Specialist." We go to specialists for a reason - they have experience and know what they're doing, and the results will be worth it.

Focus On Your Expertise

So when it comes to doing your own marketing, remember what you get paid for. It's your expertise. Instead of struggling with something that's out of your area of expertise, why not work a couple of extra hours IN your area of expertise and pay someone else to deal with the things you're not that good at.

You're likely to get much better results - and your bottom line will be much improved as well.
