Why You Want To Use Resume Templates

Resume templates can come in handy when you are applying for a job. You have to think of your resume as the first impression that you are making on an employer. This means that you want to have everything done perfectly. Formatting, spelling and being concise mean everything when first approaching an employer. A template can make it so much easier to write a stunning resume.

Know Which Highlights To Include In Your Resume

Your resume should be a quick overview of the things that you have done in your career. Having a template in front of you will help you decide which highlights to put in. It will also serve as a guide for how you express yourself. For example, you may want to say that you saved your previous employer thousands of dollars in your last job.

However, you may be undecided as to whether or not you actually say who that employer is. Your template will help you make that decision. Keep in mind that most employers like to see where you have worked in the past. Just make sure you mention your accomplishments with previous employers as well as where you have worked in the past.

Do You Include Personal Interests

Some people think that it makes you look better when you include personal interests. The thinking is that you are showcasing what is unique about you. However, the fact that you like to go fly fishing isn't going to make an employer hire you. Your boss won't care if you are great softball player.

You are not being hired to help the company softball team win the office championship. Having a resume template in front of you will help you adapt to what employers today are looking for from a resume. Also remember to omit the objective statement in most cases.

Do Not Include A Photo

Unless you are applying to be a model, you should never include a photo with your resume. It is illegal to hire someone based on their looks. It will make you seem naive and out of touch. Employers don't to deal with any potential legal issues that could arise if someone thinks that you were hired because of your looks as opposed to your qualifications. Therefore, including a photo is a great way to get your resume sent to the trash bin.

How Can Your Employer Contact You

It is important that employers have a way to contact you. In this modern age, there are more ways for an employer to potentially get in touch with you. Acceptable contact methods are by phone, email or through your social networking profile. However, if you use your social media profile as a contact method, you should make sure that nothing in your profile will turn off your future employer.

Templates will show you what you should be including in your resume. More importantly, it will show you what not to include in your resume as well. Omitting certain items from your application could be vital in your effort to make a great impression on a company.
