Trade Shows Need Teamwork

Trade show are all about your ability of working together for the better good of your company which ultimately will also produce good results for each of the team members.

It's hard work and requires a lot of energy and dedication by everyone. Most importantly, it requires superb teamwork and in order for that to happen there has to be a good team leader. As with everything there is the need for some sort of overall control; it keeps everything together and provides a reference point for each team member.

As the appointed team leader for the forthcoming trade show it is your responsibility to select the best possible people. The very nature of a trade show means that all the people in the team will have to work closely with each for a long time and often in very close proximity. In any situation this can lead to personality clashes; exhibiting at a trade show is tiring and when tiredness creeps in it is amazing how the smallest issues can get blown out of all proportion. This is when clashes occur that would not normally ever happen.

Your task as the team leader is to pick the correct people as best as possible; taking account of their individual personal skills and their personalities. You need a team of people that will gel together; effectively forming a seamless link between each other and yet able to promote themselves as individuals.

Because you need to start planning the trade show many months in advance, it gives every team member a great opportunity to get to know each well. During these early months you need to note any problems that arise between team players; there are bound to be several incidences. Try to deal with the incidents as quickly as you can; don't let something fairly trivial eat away at someone so the issue gets larger than it really is.

Talking about problems between the individuals with you as the arbitrator lets people express their pent up emotions and, providing they are in the right place to discuss the issues, the matter can usually be resolved. In fact these types of issues, if dealt with correctly can actually strengthen the working relationship because it allows each party to understand about the other.

If you do find that there are two people that constantly are unable to resolve issues between them and you have tried several times to sort out the problem then you will need to make a tough decision. One of them will have to leave the team. You cannot have the potential of something taking place during the trade show; and remember they will be very close to each other for several days so if they are unable to get on in an office environment then where will be little chance in a display booth.

You must expect the odd issue to arise between team members; it is only natural when people have to work so closely together. Always try to lead by example; keep a cool calm attitude and also let the people involved that you understand and appreciate the issues; even if you don't. Take matters in your stride and you will find that you have a great team that will ensure a very successful trade show.
