How To Take Off a Wine Label

Printing wine labels of high quality is very important for a good bottle of wine. However, there are times when you may want to save the wine label. Read on to learn how!

There are many different possible reasons that someone may want to peel off a wine label from a fine bottle of wine. Perhaps you want to use the wine label to remember a particular special event, such as an anniversary or birthday dinner. Or maybe you want to use the wine label as a decoration for a wall hanging or for in your wine cellar. Whatever the reason, taking off a wine label is a relatively easy process.

The first thing that you need to do is to save the wine bottle, no matter if you are in the restaurant or in your home. Obviously, you can't save the wine label without the bottle. Please, do not be shy about grabbing the wine bottle when you leave after dinner. Or, ask the waiter to pack the bottle up for you to take home. Some restaurant owners will be quite flattered that you took the wine bottle home!

Second, have a place where you can save your empty wine bottles with labels that you want to remove. Save them up until you have several and peel off several wine labels at one time. Put them in a place where you will remember them. They will not do you a lot of good if the wine bottles are buried in your basement.

Now that you have the bottles, you need to take off the labels. First, you should try to use your oven. Put your empty wine bottles without corks into your oven and heat up the bottles to 350 degrees F. This will take about 10 minutes. Now, remove the bottles with hand mitts and set the bottles on a heat-safe countertop. You should be able to peel those wine labels right off. Take the labels and put them on a piece of wax paper. Use great care as you handle the hot bottles. If the label does not want to come off easily, you should wait until the bottles cool and try the next method - hot water.

To try this method, fill your sink with very hot water, and get a large pot as well and fill it with water and boil it. Take your bottles with no corks and put them in the sink. After the wine bottles have soaked, some labels may peel right off. If there are still some stubborn labels, take the bottles out. Put them on a paper towel. See if you can get your fingernail under one of the labels. If you cannot get that label to budge, now you put the bottle into the boiling water - carefully! This will usually make the most stubborn label come off. You will want to have a fork or spoon at the ready so that you can get the label out of the water. Then lay the label on wax paper.
