The main type of tire you would come across at a local tire shop is the kind that the majority of consumers purchase for the vehicles they drive back and forth to work and around town every day. Even though these kinds of treads are designed for the most basic type of driving there is does not mean that they are all created the same or have an uncanny ability to take you wherever you please. Not only is there a difference in quality between these different models, which equates to them being able to travel for different numbers of miles, but there is also a difference in how they handle in adverse weather and road conditions.
As previously mentioned, there are a number of tire types made specifically for various motorsports, and the most prominent type of motorsport that people would need special wheels is racing around on an asphalt track. Your basic everyday treads do not offer the right kind of grip that allows a racer to handle the way they should and most would come to pieces not long after exceeding one hundred and fifty miles. When a racer has the correct wheels, they don't have to worry about them spinning out of control every time they try to take off or overheating and coming to pieces before they are even half way around the race track.
Without an incredibly durable tire that has a remarkable level of grip in natural terrain, anyone who is participating in an off road sport would fall to the back of the pack in no time. Dirt track racing requires wheels that can get a firm enough grip of the loose dirt to propel the vehicle forward and keep it in motion until it reaches the finish line. This same principle applies to mud riding, but for mud races, the treads should be a good bit thicker than the most basic dirt treads.
There are even a number of tire models that are specifically designed for various commercial and recreational vehicles, and these vehicles couldn't do what they are made for without them. When you take a look at all the different vehicles and driving scenarios that there are in the world, it is easy to see why there are so many different kinds of Goodyear tires.
