Eleven Simple Steps In Making A Zipper Pouch

Steps in making a zipper pouch starts by preparing the supplies you will need, then cutting the fabric, marking the edges, cutting away the tips of the sides, followed by placing the zipper on one of the fabrics, preparing the sewing machine, sewing the zipper in place, then preparing the other fabric, stitching the zipper to the second fabric, stitching both fabrics together, and finally by finishing the pouch.

Rather than having to carry several things in your hand, you can simply bring them with you by placing them inside a zipper pouch. Zipper pouches are available in various materials and colors. And, you can even make one on your own very easily.

Prepare the supplies you will need

Have all the substances you will need to finish your project ready and on hand. Besides a sewing equipment, you will also need your choice of fabric, pair of scissors, measuring tape or ruler, pins, tailor's chalk or any fabric marker, and a 25 cent coin.

Cut the cloth fabric

Get the fabric that you want to use for the pouch and using your ruler and tailor's chalk, measure and tag two sets of 5 by 9 inches on the fabric. Then, using a sharp pair of scissors, cut away the two measurements on the fabric.

Label the edges

Place both fabrics on the table and position the coin on one corner of one of the fabrics. Trace the outline of the coin which is close to the tip of the corner with the marker. Do the same thing for the remainder of the corners and the corners of the other fabric.

Cut out the tips of the corners

Get a pair of scissors and cut out the tips on the sides of both fabrics one at a time making the coin tracing label as your guide.

Put the zipper on one of the fabrics

Place one of the fabrics flat on the table with its face situated up. Then put the zipper with the teeth side facing down on the edge of the fabric. The edge where you'll put the zipper will be its opening portion, thus decide well which side you want the zipper to be placed at. Align the zipper carefully with the raw edge of the fabric. After which, get your pins and secure the zipper in place.

Prepare the sewing equipment

With your selection of thread color, whether you want one which will highlight the zipper pouch or one that will just blend in, thread this into the sewing machine's needle.

Sew the zipper tape in place

Position the top most part of the fabric with the zipper tape underneath the foot of the sewing device, with the zipper's teeth placed next to the side of the sewing machine foot. Slowly and cautiously start sewing the zipper tape unto the fabric from the top to the bottom part. As you move the fabric underneath the sewing equipment's foot, remove the pins which are getting closer to the foot of the sewing equipment.

Prepare the other fabric

Open the zipper and place the other fabric on the table with its face side up. Put the zipper along the edge of the second fabric with its teeth facing down, and pin the zipper in place.

Stitch the zipper to the 2nd fabric

Position the second fabric with the pinned zipper in place under the foot of the sewing equipment in the same way as the other fabric. Then, stitch the zipper while removing the pins as the foot of the sewing device gets close.

Stitch both fabrics together

Close the zipper and bring the 2 fabrics together with their right sides facing each other. Utilize the pins to keep them in that position as you carry them under the foot of the sewing machine. Then, sew the three sides of the fabric beginning from the tip of one end of the zipper all the way around to the other tip of the zipper.

Complete the pouch

Make a zigzag stitch all around the three sides of the pouch, the ones without the zipper attached to, to secure the raw edge of the fabric. Open your zipper and turn the pouch right side out.

Use the ordinary kind of zipper and not the invisible one, which could only be sewn by a special kind of sewing machine.
