New Homes Near Birmingham In Rural And Village Settings

Commuters to Birmingham who would rather set up home outside of the city currently have a superb choice of new developments in villages and quiet rural locations within a 50-mile radius - falling into a wide range of budgets, from less than £100,000 to well over £1 million.

Just 12 miles south of Birmingham in the historic Worcestershire village of Alvechurch, Taylor Wimpey has created an exclusive development of just 27 new homes at Willow Brook, near a pretty stretch of the Birmingham and Worcester Canal. Prices are yet to be confirmed, but properties will include two-, three- and four-bedroom homes with options suitable for first-time buyers, downsizers and growing families alike - all within easy commuting distance of Birmingham.

A little further east, but also 12 miles south of Birmingham, Banner Homes has built Temple Gardens, a prestigious development of high-end, five- and six-bedroom luxury houses priced from £1.275 million to £1.45 million in the pretty village of Dorridge. Suitable for buyers with a generous budget, these exclusive West Midlands new homes are in a sought-after, leafy setting with several well-regarded schools and colleges nearby, and Dorridge rail station is just a short walk away for direct commutes to Birmingham in around 20 minutes and London Euston or Marylebone in about two hours.

In the village of Long Lawford, close to the well-equipped town of Rugby and about 35 miles south east of Birmingham, Bloor Homes has created The Briars, a collection of two- to five-bedroom homes priced from £122,360 to £224,950. Rugby itself is well known for its superb schools and offers easy access to the M6, M1 and M69 motorways, as well as the main A5 Watling Street - making it an ideal base for commuters.

Orbit Homes has a development of well-designed yet affordable two- to four-bedroom homes at Church View in the historic town of Shipston-on-Stour in Warwickshire, about 40 miles from Birmingham and just north of the Cotswolds. Priced from just £66,000 under a shared ownership arrangement, this development includes the refurbishment of the Grade II-listed Shipston House and the addition of 45 new homes, as well as a pleasant public open space. Priority will be given to buyers with a local connection to Shipston-on-Stour via their job, family or residence, with new homes available under the Government-backed HomeBuy Shared Ownership Scheme, offering an affordable route into homeownership. You can purchase a share in a new home and pay rent on the remaining part that they don't own, while in the future you can buy extra shares until you own your home outright.

Coming soon in 2012, Banner Homes is building an exclusive development of just three five- and six-bedroom detached homes at Flint Hall in the pretty village of Newbold Pacey, situated about 30 miles from Birmingham. Set on generous plots with smart, high-specification, contemporary interiors, the homes at Flint Hall are surrounded by gorgeous countryside, with village amenities on its doorstep for basic day-to-day living - and the thriving towns of Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon both within easy reach, for a wider range of shopping and leisure facilities. For commuters, the M40 provides excellent road links, and the railway stations in both Warwick and Stratford provide fast direct lines to London and other routes. There are also a number of well-respected schools for all ages within a five-mile radius of the village.
