Affiliate Marketing Tips: How to Improve Your Google Adwords Quality Score

For the savvy affiliate marketing entrepreneur there are several ways to the top of the Google rankings. You can either work on your site so that it can gain traffic through the organic search results, optimise a page on another site such as Squidoo or you can go for the paid method with Google Adwords.

Personally I practice all of these methods, but one of my personal favourites is Google Adwords. It not only gives me the results that I'm looking for when it comes to traffic, but it gives me a little daily challenge in my quest to make it perform optimally.

In this article I'm going to share with you some of what I've learnt about using Google Adwords - in particular in the area around the Quality Score. When it comes to putting your ad in a nice spot, Google not only takes into account how much you will pay for the pleasure - as according to your maximum CPC (Cost per click) - but it also looks at your Quality Score.

The score works a little like the page ranking of Google.

So let's look at what you need to know in order to get the best from your keyword choices so that your quality score will improve?

When you first start to use a keyword, it will be assigned an average quality score. Once you start to get some clicks - then the CTR (Click through rate) will be used as a gauge on the score. This will affect all the keywords in your account and is dependent on how well you have written your copy and how relevant your chosen keywords are.

When it comes to your landing page, you'll need to have highly relevant and unique content. It will also need to load rapidly. This means that you should remove any large images that will slow down the load time. Pop-ups are a complete and utter no-no. To optimise your landing page do this: - use the keyword in the title and in the keywords meta tags. - Use Google Adwords to check for other related keywords to use in the content of the page and also part of your campaign.

The amount of traffic for a keyword is also considered. It needs to be enough to reach a particular threshold, but Google does not specify what this is.

Using dynamic insertion is one of the options. Your keywords will be inserted dynamically and this will help to keep them relevant. For this to work you'll need to have acquired a quality score of at least 3 on the keyword.

By grouping keywords together based on how relevant and related they are, you could well increase the traffic that you are gaining and so improve your quality score. Remember to put any non-performing keywords, or those that are under par either on pause or delete them.
