How do you ensure your content is going to improve your website's SEO though?
1. Don't go mad with your keywords
One of the easiest mistakes to make with regards to onsite SEO is to include your main keywords too many times in your page content. You might think the more times you repeat your keywords the better and at one time this was the case. Today though the big search engines see 'keyword stuffing' or 'keyword spamming' as a negative thing so it should be avoided at all costs.
You need to conduct in-depth keyword research and find a few keyword phrases that have relatively high search figures but aren't hugely competitive. This will then give you the edge over your rivals without having to resort to bad SEO tactics such as the overuse of keywords.
2. Make sure your SEO content is 'evergreen'
One of the worst things you can do with regards to onsite SEO is spend hours and hours writing content only for it to go 'out of date' within a few days, or weeks or even months. Time-sensitive content is not rated highly by the search engine spiders (and yes they can tell it is time-sensitive) so unless you intend to update your content on a daily or weekly basis e.g. as you would with a blog, you should try to make your SEO content as evergreen as possible.
When writing content for your website think about how relevant the information will be next week or next month or even next year. If you decide it will be 'old news' in the future and you don't intend to continuously update it then it won't help your onsite SEO much.
3. Utilise your title
Over the last few years search engine spiders have changed the way they read and index content on a website. Today the first few words on a page are often used to assign a general topic for that page and ultimately for the site so you need to include your number 1 SEO keyword in as many page titles as you can…without resorting to spamming.
For example, a website aimed at cat owners should have page titles like 'cat care', 'cat breeds', 'common cat illnesses' etc. so that search engine spiders can easily recognise the topic of the site. This small change to onsite content can have an impressive effect on your overall SEO and consequently your search engine rankings.
4. Make the most of images
They say a picture saves a thousand words and although this isn't often the case when it comes to websites they can complement your written content beautifully. You need to make the most of them though, and leaving them without any form of SEO is not making the most of them.
One of the easiest ways to improve the SEO of your onsite content is to optimise any embedded images for Google Image Search. This isn't difficult to do but if you've never done it before you will probably benefit from instructions - and ironically Google is just the place to find them. Alternatively if you're putting your onsite SEO campaign in the hands of a professional SEO agency they will quickly complete this task for you.
5. Include social media links
Social media is the new big thing in terms of SEO and including links to your Facebook page, your Twitter account and any other social media sites you're part of you can promote your onsite content while creating a way for others to share the content as well. In fact embedding the various social media widgets on each of your content pages allows visitors to your website to share your words with as many people as they want without you having to do a thing.
Widgets and social media links are great SEO tools and if you really want to improve your onsite SEO they definitely need to be incorporated into your onsite content. Thankfully the process isn't that hard to understand but again, if you've never done it before then you'll definitely benefit from reading some instructions.
So there you have it…5 very simple ways to quickly improve your onsite content so that your website SEO gets a welcome boost.
