Of course, this widespread panic brought about by these unscrupulous organizations had to go somewhere. Someone had to act on this, and fast. I guess the legislators and lawmakers drew the shortest straw on this one. To level the playing field, several laws were legislated to protect the consumers. There's the DNC (do-not-call) list; this one's self-explanatory, one must only register to this list and that's that. Next, curfews. Telemarketers should know which states are on the TETC (Too Early To Call) List and TLTC (Too Late To Call) List. I mean, we could go on with the likes of Mandating Caller ID Transmission, Licensing, Content restrictions and others just like that.
The point is, these laws were made not only to protect the general public but also legitimate call centers as well. Doing business or migrating majority of your organization's functions like order processing, answering service, b2b lead generation, b2b telemarketing, appointment setting, etc., is relatively safe as long as you did your homework before hand. Check the call center's background, the industries they've worked with, feedback from their previous or current clients, and even the awards and recognitions they've received.
Businesses may be tempted to hire home-based workers for their business solutions. There's nothing really wrong about that. The bulk of these home-based workers were once call center agents or telemarketers themselves. But there is a flipside to this coin. Admit it or not, the assurance of quality a legitimate call center can and will provide, will always be superior compared to the ones a home-based worker can deliver. For instance, a dedicated, leased line connection for VOIP will out-trump a home-based worker's broadband connection. And what if say for example, you want to hear certain recordings made on some of the calls? Who's going to be in charge of checking the quality on those calls?
Getting down to brass tacks, doing business in the telemarketing and b2b call center industry is safe, and is the better choice. You run the same risks as crossing the street: if you don't look both ways, you're bound to get hurt. I'm sure you know what that means.
