How To Job Hunt Like A Boss

So you need a job, do you? Don't fret, dear reader, there are some proven techniques that can dramatically increase your chances of not only getting a good job, but getting one that pays well and offers you plenty of chances of promotion. Sound good? Of course, you've got to get up off your duff and actually do something, those high paying gigs won't land in your lap while you update your Facebook.

The first thing you'll need to do is update your resume. Regardless of whatever experience you've got, you need to go through your past and dig out all the experience that could be considered positive. Anytime you learned anything particularly quickly, or got along well with difficult people, or solved any kind of problem without needing much support. List all these skills on your resume. Keep in mind that what most employers are looking for is someone who works well without direction, gets along well with plenty of people and can learn quickly.

Now that you've got the perfect resume put together, it's time to send it out. The name of the game here is numbers. The more resumes you send out, the more chances you'll have of being hired. With each and every resume, you've got to come up with a good cover letter. Make sure the cover letters talks to the requirements of the job specifically. Show why you are the best for the job, and address it to the hiring manager directly, if at all possible. This may take a little extra time, but it can give you an edge.

How many of these should you send out? As many as you can. You'll find out after a couple week that X number of resumes sent out will get you Y number of return contacts. Depending on how well you handle these, you'll get a certain number of interviews.

This is key. Don't look at each interview as a big deal. Some of them you'll think about blowing off, because it's not really a job you're looking for. However, these are the perfect interviews to polish your skills. After all, the better you are at interviewing, the more chances you'll have at landing that fantastic job when it does come your way.
