Social media has never been more popular with businesses and solopreneurs. No matter your industry, you'll find professionals online, using social media to connect with fellow professionals, clients, customers, vendors, potential clients/customers and to build relationships. There are many reasons to want to use social media.
Some seem naturally adept at social media. Others find it challenging to use it. One of the biggest challenges they face is to find topics to talk about. With social media, you are constantly commenting, starting a conversation.
Here are 5 of our favorite topics to talk about. You'll find lots of variety here, and they work for most industries. Fortunately now, you'll never be lost for a great topic for your next social media post or comment!
New product/service. Any business would be thrilled to share the news about a new product or service via social media. This is an ideal topic to talk about. Keep in mind that social media posts should not come across with a "Buy Me, Buy Me" type of vibe. Tell them something cool or fun about the product or service. Tell them how excited you are to launch the product or service. Tell them something funny about creating the product or service - and then share more information about what it does!
Current events. This is a popular topic, ideal for just about every industry. It's easy to send out links to current events related to your business, and a great way to show that you are keeping up to date on business trends. Some who do this comment on the current event and others simply send out a link with the current event article/blog for people to read.
Funny anecdote. This is an ideal way to show your personality, to let people get to know you. We all have funny things happen to us. The key factor is to think, "Is this something I would share in a business setting?" You are Tweeting or sharing on Facebook this anecdote to your business connections. This is the perfect time to share something funny about your new laptop, a business trip story or something else that relates somehow to your business.
Tips/Advice. Now this is a great way to do 2 things: to place yourself as an expert in your field with those who follow you and also to make your Tweeting or Facebook page more interactive. You can send out some tips/advice related to your business field. Another great idea is to Tweet/make a Facebook comment that on a certain day and time you'll be giving tips/advice to anyone who Tweets/comments with a question. This is a fun way to connect with your followers.
Freebie. Your followers will always appreciate a freebie - or even a special offer. The best way to do this is to offer them something first, before you are offering it to others. This makes them feel special, gives those who follow you special "perks" that others simply don't have. A freebie could be a short report, a whitepaper, an audio or something else related to your business.
With our favorite topics, you'll never run out of things to talk about using social media. Keep the conversation going for future success!
