Marketing for Introverts

Do you have a small business and want to do more marketing? Let's rephrase that: do you have a small business and need to do more marketing? This can be even harder if you have an introverted personality. The introvert is a friendly, nice person but simply doesn't have that outgoing personality. They'd much rather have someone else get out there for them. But don't worry, there are ways you can market for your business, even if you are an introvert. Here are a few great ways to market, especially with the introvert in mind.

Dip your toe in the pool. The thought of going to a networking event is probably like tossing the introvert into a freezing pond in the middle of a snowy December. Brr! That's why we'll dip our toe into the pool when it comes to marketing. There's nothing too intimidating about dipping ones toe into the pool, is there? Start by just carrying your business cards with you and having friendly chit chat with people you meet as you go about your day. If they ask what you do, its the perfect time to mention your business and to exchange cards. That's the toe dipper! The water is nice and comfortable!

Put your own network to work. Many introverts are loyal friends and family members. While they may not be social butterflies at a cocktail party, when they make a friend, they are a good friend to them. That's why now is a good time to mention your business to your friends and family. Don't worry, you are not asking your friends and family for business, simply asking them to keep you in mind if someone is looking for a plumber, architect, hair salon or whatever product or service you offer. Give them a call to let them know and then send them a few business cards in the mail so they have your business contact information.

Start a business newsletter or e-newsletter. A busy small business owner may say, "Why do I need another thing to do?" But a short business newsletter or e-newsletter can help to promote your business and to remind old and new customers about your products and services. For the introvert it is the ideal form of marketing. Today's e-newsletters are very short, its easy to keep yours to a single page or two. Remember to add your family and friends to your mailing list.

And jump into the pool sometimes! While you may be an introvert, it is always good to challenge yourself to do something new. If a networking event makes your knees shake, try a small networking event and tell yourself you'll stay for a little while. You may be surprised at how well you do. We aren't going to push you into the freezing pond, simply encourage you to realize that there is much more that you can do. With marketing, the introvert has many options available to them!
