SO2 or Sulfur Dioxide is a much more toxic product made from one Sulfur atom and two Oxygen atoms. This gas is a harmful and noxious smelling one. Erupting volcanoes are the most common sources of this gas in nature. Coal has some sulfur, so when it is burned that compound is released into the air to combine with oxygen. SO2 is poisonous to humans and it also partly makes up, Acid Rain, which devastates plants, buildings and can harm animals that it falls on. Keeping an eye on emissions can help power plants and manufacturing facilities to figure out how much sulfur is being released during their processes.
N02, also named, Nitrogen Dioxide is the most detrimental of the three gases mentioned here, and it's primarily a man-made gases produced through various combustion processes, nuclear testing and thermal power stations. NO2 is composed of one nitrogen atom and two oxygen atoms in a covalent bond. It is very toxic to people, but its strong smell means that it can usually be avoided. However, using an infrared gas analyzer is important to ensure the safety of employees in a work place where this gas can be released as well as the safety of the surrounding population.
CO2, SO2 and NO2 aren't the only possibly dangerous gases that can be released into the air by man-made processes. They are amid our biggest concerns as they cause the most damage or are released in the highest quantities. The installation of monitoring equipment helps facilities to be more aware of their waste products, so they can take action to prevent it from entering the surrounding environment.
