Are You Ready to Start Marketing?

"Are you ready to start marketing?" This seems like an odd question to ask a business, because any business needs to do marketing to be successful. But some businesses need to do some "prep work" before they actually should begin marketing for best results. Taking the time to do this prep work will help them retain more customers and to make a better impression on the customers and potential customers they meet.

Most businesses just start marketing the instant they are in business. This is a big mistake that some simply don't understand. If you knew that you'd land that client by making a better impression, wouldn't you take the time to do it? Of course you would! And you probably notice the little details when you, yourself are a client in other offices. You wouldn't choose a business that didn't seem to pay proper attention to their own business. It simply makes good business sense. Because if they aren't paying attention to the simple things, you wonder if they can handle more difficult things with confidence.

Try taking our quiz to decide if you're ready to start marketing. We'll talk about the results in a few minutes.

My company website is:

A) Completed
B) Needs a little updating
C) Is completely out of date
D) I don't have a website

My business cards are:

A) Have all my contact information, current company logo/graphic and social media info
B) Needs a little updating, like my social media info
C) I need new business cards, just haven't had the time
D)I've been meaning to get business cards

My conference room/space to meet with clients is:

A) Clean, well presented with plenty of chairs, bottled water and plants, natural light
B) I need to get new chairs or get bottled water
C) I've been meaning to clean out the conference room, we've been busy
D) We don't have space for a conference room/meeting space for clients

Let's talk about the results!

If you answered mostly A's: You're ready to go! Get out there and bring in new business. You make a great impression and are ready to connect with new and old clients

If you answered mostly B's: You're almost there! Make an effort to complete those last details that make a difference, and you'll be ready to meet with clients.

If you answered mostly C's: You need improvement. These are things clients notice. If your information is out of date, or your conference room is a mess, they'll wonder what type of focus and effort you'll do with their project.

If you answered mostly D's: You're just not ready. Take the time to update your business cards and website, making a great first impression. Getting out there and meeting clients right now will not work to your advantage.

Keep in mind that many businesses have the attitude and the aptitude to be successful. An outdated business card doesn't mean your business is destined to fail. But making these small improvements can help you make that great first impression on any client that comes your way. We all know you only get one chance to make a first impression - so make that first impression great & your best chance to market to them well!
