Admittedly, probably the most daunting task for most business owners is discovering the true and trusted ways their company can stand out in the-already overcrowded market. Most especially for those who jumped on the bandwagon or the latest current trend, rising above everyone else who sell or offer almost the same products and service is difficult.
It's all dependent on a business owner's attitude - and determination to stand out. You have to find a way to be different - and always have an edge over the rest. So how can you do it?
FOCUS ON YOUR CUSTOMERS. Ultimately, it is not your want or desire that has to be met by your business, but your clientele's. Know what they need and want. If you have regular customers, talk to them, ask for their feedback. Of course, when you ask for feedback, don't be offended if they point out your misgivings. For all you know, these little things may be the reason why your loyal buyers are considering trekking to your competition's store. Find out how to please the source of your income. And the most important - if they do give positive feedback, don't be embarrassed to ask for referrals. A referral is a spoken letter of recommendation form a satisfied customer.
BE VISIBLE. DON'T HIDE IN YOUR COMFORTABLE OFFICE. It's always a pleasant experience to see a business owner interacting with the staff and clients. It sends out the message that "you are proud of your company and your people." Engage in small talk with everyone who pays your store a visit, or be pleasant to interested ones who call to inquire. For those who sell online, answer the queries of your virtual buyers. Show people only one thing - that they are important, and that their business means a lot to you.
USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO MARKET YOUR BUSINESS. Social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and blogging has the unique ability to send your message to the most number of potential clients - at every corner of the planet reachable by the internet. Open accounts and blogs with all the social media platforms - and start interacting with people! Comment and react to other peoples' and companies postings. This way, you get your company out there in the online world. The more visible you are, the higher the change that you become top of mind of that future buyer.
FIND OUT WHAT YOUR COMPETITION IS DOING. You may one day discover that you have lost a number of your existing customers to that celphone shop next door. Why? Well, find out - it's the only way to tell where you have gone wrong. Are they offering the exact same celphone units for much less? Are they giving out freebies for every sale, or incentives for bulk purchases? Then it's time to fight fire with fire!.Lower the prices. If you can't afford it, then think of some other promo. The bottom ine is, would lowering prices and losing some profit be worth losing business? If the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages, then don't hesitate. Time is of essence.
COME UP WITH PROMOS TO DRUM UP BUSINESS. Promos are successful ways to entice people into your lair. Offer an extra valuable item for every multiple purchase. It may cost you some extra capital, but it does bring in the client inside your store. Once you have them as your captive audience. Mesmerize them with top-of-the-line quality, unequaled customer service, and excellent after-sales service. You may be pleasantly surprised with the results.
So fear not. Every business owner is whacking his brains out thinking of how to get the edge over you. The trick is just to outdo his efforts and remain on top.
