No matter how small your building business may be, the benefits of attending a construction trade show far outweighs any reason not to attend. These trade shows have been developed solely for the business owners, buyers and vendors the opportunity to meet others in the trade.

You'll be able to meet vendors, set up and conduct business meetings, network with valuable contacts and explore new products and services.

If you feel that a construction trade show is the last thing that you need to attend right now, and you just don't have the time - then think again. Do whatever you can to make the time. You may have to hire temporary help, request that family help you out or you may even have to juggle your calendar to find the time.

Once you are all set to attend the exposition, then it's time to do some homework. Knowing what your goals are for the time that you spend at the show, will reap the kind of rewards that you want. You should have a strategy to meet people who could be helpful to your business. Here are some tips on how you can make the best of construction trade shows:

Preregister for the show. You'll be free of the concern about turning up at the event and having to stand in a line with a thousand other show goers. it won't be a good use of your time and you could end up feeling stressed and frustrated before you even get into the building.

Create a plan. You need to know which vendors you want to see, which products you want to investigate, the seminars that you want to attend and any planned purchases.

If there is a particular vendor that you would like to meet during the construction expo, then set an appointment with them. This way you know that you will definitely get to meet them.

Wear business casual clothing. You'll need a pair of comfortable shoes as construction trade shows involve a lot of walking around. When you pack, be sure to leave room in your luggage to bring back literature and freebies. Some vendors may have bags, but if you pack a bag to take with you on the day, you'll be well prepared.

Review the show guide upon arrival. You'll save wasting time as you familiarise yourself with the exhibition layout. You may need to revise your plan to take into account any changes.

Keep a pen and notebook handy. They'll be lots of notes to take. You'll also need to collect business cards as you go and you'll want to make notes on the back of those too.

If you are looking to purchase custom merchandise, then bring your artwork and requirements with you on a flash drive. It's easy to transfer files to other's laptops and they'll be abl to send them to the relevant departments.
