Men's Shoes For Interviews

You only get one chance to make a first impression -- and when you are making that first impression to try to get a job, you need to make sure you take as much advantage of that one chance as possible. If you are man who is going to be interviewing for a job soon, you know that what you wear can help set you apart from other candidates. However, did you know that your shoe wear can really make a statement -- positive or negative? That's right; some people like to argue that "no one will be looking at your feet," that if you simply show up in a nice suit and tie you'll be fine. However, what you wear on your feet can either make or break your interview outfit, and you want to make it. Here are a few tips that can help you do this.

Shoe Type.

There are many different kinds of men's shoes, ranging from sandals to sports shoes, to loafers and dress shoes. In most cases, the only acceptable choice for an interview is the dress shoe. However, there are a few exceptions if you are interviewing for a sport's job, for example, or a position with children that will require you to complete some sort of practical interview, it may be acceptable to wear athletic shoes. For example, if, as part of your interview, you must lead children through basketball drills, athletic shoes are a must.

Another instance in which it may be acceptable for men to wear men's boots instead of dress shoes is when you are interviewing for a construction or other type of outdoor job. In these instances, you want to show the person interviewing you that you are familiar with the type of work and have the equipment to be successful. Wearing boots in this case can show your potential employer that you are ready for a job in this area.

Shoe Condition.

No matter what kind of shoes you are wearing to your interview, whether they are dress shoes or athletic shoes, your shoes need to be clean, and if you are wearing dress shoes, shine your shoes. Never wear old or run down shoes. If you have to, borrow a pair. When you dress for an interview, you are showing the person conducting the interview how much you care about your job. Taking the time to wear an appropriate outfit with clean, matching shoes shows that you care about the job and took the time to prepare for the interview.

The shoes you wear to a job interview can influence whether or not you get the job, so wear the right footwear for the occasion, and get ready to get the job.
