Greeting Cards Can Look Expensive Without Being Expensive

The leaders of the West Side Baptist Church wanted to do more things which would personalize their relationships with their growing congregation. There were now five hundred separate families and two thousand individuals who attended, and it seemed as though the church membership was starting to crowd the room. The pastors were concerned about losing contact with people.

They decided to call on someone they knew who might be in a position to advise them: a salesman at a full service printing company which happened to be located a block from their new location. They called him and they invited him over to see their growing location. They discussed their concerns and at the end of the discussion he suggested that they start, build and maintain a greeting card program to serve the entire congregation.

He suggested that as pastors is was their role to know vital statistics about their congregants: dates of birth, health issues, number of children, and so forth. A greeting card program would allow them to send cards to your clientele and their family members at appropriate times of the year, informing them of changes they need to consider to their policies.

He stated that they should also have a program to send cards to people who move into town, when they read about marriages and babies being born and when someone gets a promotion. All these activities are good times to invite people to visit their church. It may require having an employee be assigned to read newspapers and keep up with developments such as these, but it's a good way to introduce themselves to the community and to make inroads wherever possible.
