While I love my career as a rodeo cowboy, I did not anticipate how large the expense was going to be when I had to replace my equipment, and buy all of the new pricey western tack. I had been participating in a bunch of rodeo events for several years when I noticed that a lot of my equipment was getting old and worn out, and it looked like I would need to replace it before there was an accident. It was nearly time for the "Daddy of 'em All" a rodeo in Cheyenne, Wyoming and I was certain that I would need some new equipment in order to perform my best.
I did an inventory of what I needed and wound up with a pretty big list of supplies for both me and my horse. I could have gone to a specialty western shop, but I was on the road too much and decided I would order my stuff online and have them shipped to my home in Boise. This turned out to be much more convenient, and the website had an awesome selection.
First up, I needed to look at their horse bridles and headstalls which were the parts of my equipment most in need of replacement. I put a rush order on it and at the last minute, added a horse blanket, for my horse Lightning, as the one I had been using was wearing quite thin. My order came to my home in Kansas and I made sure to be there when it was delivered so I could check out everything to see if it was good quality.
When I got my belongings ready and set out on the road to Cheyenne, my mind was consumed with thoughts of calf roping, which was a new event that I was wanting to try my hand in. I made it into Cheyenne late that night and went directly to my motel, where I randomly encountered an old buddy of mine who was also planning to ride in the rodeo. As we talked, he began telling me about the new tack he had ordered online from, as it turned out, the same website.
He demanded that I take a good look at the western saddles that he and his cousin, a fellow rider, had ordered for their own personal use. Along with the saddles, he wanted me to examine the breast collars and reins that he was also planning on using once he broke everything in. I wished him good luck and went back to my motel room to get some sleep and get ready for the events of the next day. I actually slept well that night, knowing that I had new equipment and brand new confidence that would send me to success, and maybe even a date with one of the pretty girls I had seen at the last rodeo!
