1. It's Just Better
If you only have time for one reason, make it this one: HD footage is just plain better than standard definition footage. It has a crisp image, distinct edges, bold colors, and a high quality that is more visually appealing for the viewer. Rather than looking like a film, it makes things look like you are seeing them in real life. HD is especially important when you are showing motion, like in sports, and detail, like in scenery.
2. Increasing Availability
HD footage used to be hard to find and expensive which kept producers from using them regularly. Now, though, the equipment used to shoot in high definition is becoming less expensive, so the footage itself is more widely available. If you are not yet ready to make the investment in your own equipment, you can at least use stock footage shot in HD, which is readily available and reasonably priced.
3. Looks Better on Large Screens
More and more people have large screens capable of displaying high definition video, and when they view standard definition videos on these screens, they will probably notice the difference. Even though the differences may not be quite as noticeable on a smaller screen, as you move up in screen size, you'll find HD quality is necessary to keep the video looking sharp and clear for the viewer. Especially if you know your video will be shown on a large screen, use HD if at all possible.
4. Boost Selling Price
You'll also find you can market and sell your videos at a higher price since they're in a high definition format instead of the older style standard def formats. The increase in your selling price can help pay for any additional costs you incur by using high definition footage in your products. In addition, as you build your reputation as a producer of high quality, high definition videos, you will be able to charge more as well.
