What Is The Best Type Of Flagpole?

Believe it or not there are many different types of flagpoles available on the market today. They come in varying selection of materials and in many different designs.

Wooden flagpoles have been around for many years, commonly made from Oak or Douglas Fir, they are the traditional type of flagpole. You can still buy them now, but with the introduction of newer materials used in the flagpole making industry and the advancements in technology, they are getting rarer by the day.

Most flagpoles that are available on the market today are made from Aluminium or Fibreglass and the costs of these can vary dramatically depending on the size and if it needs to be custom made or not. Nothing that is custom made these days is cheap!

The best type is the single piece Aluminium flagpole, they are elegant, regal and perfect for prestige locations. If you are trying to get a similar look and don't have the budget, then glass fibre poles are a cheaper option, they also weigh a lot less than the equivalent aluminium pole.

Another thing you should be aware of; is it's not just the material that dictates the price when it comes to the cost of flagpoles, getting one that comes in two pieces is a lot cheaper. Okay you don't get the same perfect profile, but you will save on the cost of the pole and on the cost of the shipping. The shipping of a large single peice flagpole is expensive and depending on the size and where you are located if could be more than the actual pole itself.

You can dress your flagpole with more accessories than just your flag. Common additions that make a difference are the finial; this sits at the top of the flagpole and is usually onion shaped and either white or gold. A rotating arm; this enables better visibility of your flag and is more often used when advertising. Another common design choice is whether to have the halyard internal or external; the halyard actual comes from the words 'haul yard' and is the line used to raise or lower the flag. Internal halyards are obviously not available on none hollow poles, so you would be hard pushed to find a wooden flagpole that has an internal halyard.

These are just some of the ways you can customise your flagpole, without having to have a custom one made for you.
