Whether you're into crafts or you simply want a personalized envelope for a special card, you will be astonished at how easy it's to create an envelope. You can make your own personalized envelope out of any printed paper or plastic. Read this article to know how to do it.
Prepare the paper
Select what type of paper you wish to use for the envelope. It could be printed, ordinary, colored, or white. You may also utilize vinyl to create vinyl envelopes. Then, position the material with its printed area towards the table and its bare side towards you. You also need to decide how big or small you want the envelope to be, and whether you need it to be square or rectangular in form.
Draw the shape of the envelope
Whether you wish it square or rectangle, draw the shape of the envelope you want to make onto the paper. You should also base the dimension of the envelope on the size you want it to be and with allowance for the overlapping folds. For example, you want to make a three-inch square envelope, create a four-inch square; and a six-inch square for a four-inch envelope. The same goes for rectangular envelopes.
Create the upper and lower flaps
Now, create the top and bottom flaps of the envelope. To get this done, select whether you want to begin on the top or bottom of your envelope's shape, and then make a triangle with 2 sides equal in length and the third side is attached to the body of the envelope. Make sure that the height of the flap can reach beyond the center of the envelope, so that it can overlap the opposite flap. Do the same process to the opposite flap, and ensure that its length can reach beyond the middle of the envelope, as well.
Develop the side flaps
Create the side flaps of the envelope by creating triangles on all sides of the envelope, wherein two sides are of identical sizes and the 3rd side is attached to the side of the envelope. Ensure that each of the flap's height measures a bit more than half of the envelope's width.
Slice it into shape
Get a sharp pair of scissors and cut the envelope's outline. Make sure you stick to the outline very carefully, so you don't cut through any portions of the envelope, including the flaps.
Fold the side flaps
Fold the side flaps, starting on the left and right section of the envelope. Fold both flaps carefully, and then get a bone folder and run this over the fold to make it tidy and also crisp.
Fold the bottom part flap
Fold the lower flap similar to the side flaps along its crease. Then, run the bone folder over it to make a crisp fold.
Glue the side and base flaps together
Get a bottle of liquid glue and put a small line onto the two sides of the bottom flap that meet the side flaps. Attach the flaps together, and press the glued edges of the bottom part flap, so it will stick tightly on the side flaps. Take away any excess glue which comes out when you push the base flap.
Fold the top flap
Fold the top part flap along its crease similar to the other flaps, and run the bone folder over it, as well.
Don't forget to keep the top flap open. You can use glue or a lovely sticker to close the flap.
