5 Simple Steps To Make Plastic Covers

Plastic covers do a great job of guarding your devices from dust and dirt. You can make your own by first measuring the widths of your appliances, drawing out the patterns, cutting out the patterns, tape the seams and lastly stitch up the edges.

Protecting your furniture and electrical appliances from the build-up of dirt isn't only important to maintain the physical appearance of your belongings, but it can also keep the maximum performance of these appliances. One great way to do this is to protect them with plastic covers when not being utilised. You could even create your own! Here's how:

Measure the widths

It's very important that you get the measurements of the appliances before you start buying any materials because it will be much more troublesome to remedy any measurement faults later on. If you are searching for ready-made covers for small appliances, you could actually consider getting some vinyl envelopes that perform a great job of protecting your small devices from the damaging buildup of dust and dirt. In order to make sure that you obtain the correct measurements, always measure the widths and lengths of the largest part of your appliance. Besides that, you must leave allowance for seams as well. An allowance of less than an inch to an inch would suffice if you're handy with a sewing equipment, but you might want to leave a little extra room if you are doing this for the very first time.

Draw the patterns

Once you have the measurements in hand, you can then begin by drawing out the rough pattern on a big sheet of paper of tracing paper. It is not advisable to draw straight on your plastic sheet in the event you make errors. It may take some practice and double checking before you settle on the final design, so don't hesitate to take your time and make sure that you get each step right. If you are happy with the design you have, you can then start to transfer this onto the plastic sheet. Tape down the sides of the paper to the plastic as this will act as your guide in the next step.

Cut out patterns

Using the pattern that you have drawn, cut along the lines to make the shape of your cover. You should be careful and ensure that your pattern doesn't run about when you are cutting it or you could adversely affect your final sizes. Work your way around the pattern slowly and pay attention to delicate parts.

Tape seams

Now that you have got your plastic cover in the preferred size, you'll need to tape up the seams hence giving you the final styles and dimensions of your plastic cover. The tape will serve as a rough outline for you when you begin sewing up the cover.

Stitch up edges

If you're using a sewing machine, put your plastic cover on the machine with the inverse part facing you and start sewing alone the tape lines you made earlier. The tape should help you stay within the desired dimensions but work slowly as some plastic materials might be slippery or might tear quickly. Once you are done, you can put together various parts of the cover based on the pattern you find attractive. Your cover will then be ready to utilize.

These covers will no doubt keep your furniture and appliances in tip top and pristine condition so they last longer and look better!
