What Is The Best Type Of Floor Protection For Construction Sites?

I think firstly you have to define what type of construction site and floor you are talking about. And secondly what do you mean by best, is it price or is it quality? I think when you are talking about the latter then it's a mixture of both price and quality.

So I'm going to break down the various types of floor and talk about the different options available:

Carpet Protection:

When it comes to carpet protection there are really two types that are commonly available on the market today, mesh or polythene sheeting. On the down side mesh sheeting is generally more expensive and requires additional time to fix to the carpet, but it does offer a robust level of carpet protection and is more suited to construction projects that have major building work still in progress. Sheeting on the other hand can be self adhesive, which saves time and is excellent for protecting stairs and is more suited to lighter construction projects or projects that are in the decoration or final fix stage.

Timber Floor Protection:

When choosing the correct type of timber floor protection it can depend on if the floor is uncured. If you have newly finished timer then breathable floor protection is the way forward. Otherwise corrugated plastic sheeting is most likely the best option and the thickness of that sheeting depends on the type of construction project you are on, the lighter the construction the thinner the sheeting is the general rule, it really depends on the likelihood of any impact on the floor that could damage the surface.

Stone and Ceramic Floor Protection:

Stone and ceramic floor types require similar types of floor protection to timber floors, either a breathable floor covering or plastic sheeting. You can usually get away with thinner plastic sheeting on stone floors compared to wooden as stone floors are more hard wearing.

These are the most common types of flooring that need to be protected during the construction process today. When choosing the right type of floor protection you should always look at the work being done and the stage of the development process you are at. Nearly all of the types of floor coverings mentioned above are also available in a flame retardant form, should the risk of fire on your site be a concern.

Anyway I hope helps answer the question of what are the best types of floor protection on construction sites.
