Want to Make Money from Home? 5 Ideas You Can Take Advantage of Today

Whether you're the victim of a pink slip or you simply want to make more money in your free time, there are plenty of different ways to make money from home. Aside from the flexible schedule and the lack of a commute, working from home provides a great chance to do something that truly interests you - while making some good money off of it.

But what about the old saying, "you have to spend money to make money"?

Luckily, you can take advantage of these 5 opportunities, without spending an arm and a leg to get your business off the ground!

1. Computer help.

Have a fondness for gadgets? Even if you're not a tech-whiz, you can provide some much-needed computer help for people in your community. Things like backing up files, defragging hard drives, and installing new software might seem like a breeze to you - but they can be completely overwhelming for some people. If you can prove you're a reliable form of tech support, you can make a bundle!

2. Tutoring.

Whether you have a degree in English or were the star of the math team in high school, it won't be hard to find students of all ages that can use a little extra help. It'll be up to you whether you charge by the hour or by the session, but either way, it's a great way to make money right from your own kitchen table.

And, you don't have to give up your business when the school year ends. There are plenty of parents who like to keep their kids "sharp" over the summer - meaning you can tutor kids all year long!

3. Child care.

If you're home during the day, why not make some extra money by watching other people's children? Since most parents spend a fortune on child care, there's definitely a market for it!

Just be sure to take a look at your local laws before you start. Many jurisdictions limit the number of kids you can watch in one home. You may also need to get a license, but that's not entirely bad. In fact, you'll be able to charge more as a licensed caregiver than just as a random babysitter!

4. Laundry services.

Laundry is an essential part of life, but it's a chore most people hate! If you can come up with a laundry service that's cheaper than your local dry cleaner, you'll never struggle to find customers who are willing to pay you. If you want to make even more money, add on an extra cost for certain services - like ironing. Most people will jump at the opportunity!

Even if customers give you clothes that are dry clean-only, you can take them to the dry cleaner yourself, then charge a "travel" fee.

5. Auto detailing.

If you want to spend your time outside, this can be a great business opportunity. Most people want a clean car, but they don't have the time or the inclination to do it themselves. If you don't have any money to spend upfront, just offer basic things - like a wash and dry or interior cleaning services. All you'll need are some car sponges, some auto soap, and some soft towels... You probably have all of them sitting inside your home right now!

What if you want to do more than just the basics?

If you have a garage (or some other area that's out of direct sunlight), you can wax cars for an additional charge. If you're handy with a few basic tools and a paintbrush, you can even offer to buff out scratches and paint over dings for an extra fee!
