Things are a bit different today. Changes in policies and fees have made it easier for big businesses to sell successfully on eBay, while making it more difficult for individual sellers to get their foot in the door. So should you give up? Should you forget eBay as a money-making business model? Absolutely not! It's still possible to bring in big profits, but today it is more important than ever to know what things to sell on eBay to make money.
One of the most reliable strategies is to find a niche market and to really specialise within it. Through this practice you can sneak your way into the category of a top rated seller, providing you with more and more opportunities to expand into different market areas, or simply expand the range of products that you offer with one particular market.
That's all well and good however, but even with a niche market in mind it can be difficult to know exactly what to start selling. Fortunately there is a little strategy using a free eBay tool to help you along the way.
Click into the category that best represents your niche market. At the top of the search results you will see a number for the amount of items currently listed within that particular category. It's likely to be quite high.
On the left hand side of the page you will see a variety of options for narrowing down your search. One of these options is entitled 'Completed Listings'. Click this link now to look at auctions that have finished instead of those that are currently live right now.
You should notice that some prices are highlighted in red and some in green. The green prices show the amount that the item in question, whereas the red prices indicate that an item did not sell at all. Have a look through the list and see if you can spot any brands that repeatedly feature green prices and make a note of them.
Go back to the search bar and enter one of the specific products that you noted down in the previous step. You should immediately notice that the number of search results is lower, giving you more of a chance to be noticed in this particular category sub-section.
Return to step two but for this new set of results. Once again you can look at those auctions that have sold successfully, and those that haven't, and again pick a product that seems to sell well frequently.
Repeat this process until you have narrowed down your search and found a product, or several products, that repeatedly sell successfully and that have a minimum level of competition from other providers.
This is a great strategy to help you to find things to sell on eBay to make money, so spend some time today to have a look at products that you could get hold of.
