Article Marketing Success: How Many Links Can I Build In 5 Days Of Article Submissions?

I know that you're not just doing article marketing for fun. You're doing it for a purpose--you want to get more visitors to your website, the sooner the better.

We're all like this--whether we're starting a new exercise program or trying to get some interest in our website, we want to know how soon we can see results.

I received the question about how many links can be built in 5 days of article submissions from a new website owner, and immediately I knew where he was coming from. He wanted to hit the ground running and quickly churn up a burst of results. It's a perfectly natural thing to want to do, and I think we'd all buy into it if it could actually work.

Unfortunately, when you're marketing your website online, it takes more than 5 days of work to see lasting results.

Whenever you're marketing your website, your ultimate goal is to get a higher search engine ranking (ideally the #1 ranking) for your website for certain keyword terms that are associated with your niche. These are terms that your target customers would be typing into Google, Yahoo, and the other search engines.

If you can rank #1 or close to that, then the people who are searching for those terms will be funneled into your website, resulting in a steady stream of extremely targeted traffic.

How's that for a motivator?

If you're serious about marketing your site you need to look further out than just a week. Here is the sort of mindset you need to have to achieve article marketing success:

You need to get really specific about your goals for your website. It's not enough just to say that you want more website visitors. What your really want to is get a higher search engine ranking for specific keyword terms.

So, your first step will be to do some keyword research. Once you get your list of keyword terms together, then it's time to gather some basic information about where your website stands. Record where your website is currently ranked for each keyword term and make a note of the date. That is your baseline.

Then, each month as you're doing your article marketing you'll make a note of where your website is ranked for each of your keyword terms. This is your way of measuring your article marketing success. Don't worry about how many links you're building. What really makes a practical difference is where your website is ranked for your chosen terms. Doing Keyword Research:

There are two types of keywords that you're looking for, and you'll form a list of each type.

The first are words that you want your website to be ranked highly for. These are your main keyword terms, and they're usually 2-3 words long.

The second type is called long-tail keyword terms. These phrases are longer--usually 4-8 or more words long. These longer phrases will usually have less competition--there are fewer websites competing to satisfy these types of searches, but there are also fewer people searching for these terms. Your goal is to get your article to rank highly for these terms (rather than your website).

When you're doing article marketing, you will use those keyword terms in your article submissions. Use the long-tail keyword terms to create your article topics. You can use them in the title and the article body. Be subtle and use your keyword terms naturally, rather than peppering your article with one phrase repeatedly.

Then, in your resource box you'll use your shorter main keywords as the anchor text for the link that goes back to your website. Be sure to alternate the keyword terms that you use in your resource box. Don't use the same term every time.

You should be submitting articles consistently each month, and it will likely be a few months before you notice a change in your website ranking. That's okay--you're really looking for lasting changes that can dramatically impact your website rather than a short term burst of traffic that doesn't last. When you're trying to improve your search engine ranking, it takes patient effort, but the payoff is huge.
