How To Prepare For A Garage Sale

After a long winter being cooped up in the house because of the cold and snowy weather, springtime offers a lot of exciting opportunities. When it finally stops snowing, you can get out of the house and play baseball with your kids, start exercising to get rid of the extra pounds you gained or you can start thinking about having a garage sale. If you are thinking about a garage sale, you should really think hard about investing in one of the pricing guns on the market. Having the ability to put price labels on every item that will actually stick will save you a lot of time and hassle.

The first thing you have to do if you want to have a garage sale is clean out your garage. You have to have enough space available to put the items you are planning to sell as you clean out your house. You also have to have enough room to properly display the items. If you really want to sell a lot of things, you should try to display everything as much as possible. If people have to dig through piles to find out what you have available, they would not do it.

Once your garage is clean, you should then use sheets to cover up everything that is not included in the sale. Most of us use garages to store various items and if people can see your garden hose, shovels and planters, they will want to buy them. Your next step should be to set up tables in the garage. It will be a lot easier if you can set up the tables before you start bringing in items to sell. If you do not have tables set up, you will have to move every item twice -- once from your house to the place you are stacking everything you want to sell, and then again from that pile to the tables. The best case is to have tables set up in your garage so that when you find items that you will be selling, you can put them together with items that are similar.

Next, you should go through your house and start grabbing all of the stuff that you no longer want. Most of these types of items will be in closets and basements. As you find items, you can place them directly on the table of the similar types of items.

Pricing is the part of having a garage sale that a lot of people complain about. The big thing to keep in mind when you price items is to understand how badly you want to get rid of it. If your purpose is to make money by selling your things, you should price them higher, but you have to understand that you will not sell as much. If the purpose of having a garage sale is to clean out your house, price items lower. Using a pricing gun will make this easier. Then you just have to do the advertising for your sale and get ready to start selling.
