Trade Fair Booths Must Be Like Eye Candy

Businesses realize all too well that the trade show provides an invaluable opportunity to attract more customers. Thousands of people flock to trade shows from all over the world to connect with others in the same industry. Thousands of dollars are spent by businesses just to be noticed. The attendee relies on trade show booths to accurately create the first impressions of the featured business.

Exhibitors have essentially three kinds of booths to choose from. The most expensive one is the custom booth. The basic concepts that many use are either the boxy modular look or the scaffolding design. A more affordable option is the second kind of booth called a collapsing booth. A curved back wall is built on wheels. When not in use it collapses to be easily pushed away. A third option is the minimalist generic booth which is what most companies choose for its affordability. It consists of an inexpensive banner displayed at the back of the booth with a table and some chairs in the foreground.

Whatever the design concept the first basic rule of thumb to remember is that the booth must be appealing like eye candy. The fair attendee must be compelled to stop and look at it within the first few critical seconds. Attendees look at hundreds of booths all day long and reach a point of visual saturation. The uniquely different booth will stand out in a crowd and lure the onlooker to enter and look around some more.

The exhibitor needs to decide whether to create a customized booth or purchase a ready made one. If spending large sums of money is not a concern, then the ready made alternative may be the best choice. Either way, the graphics, color and form must stand out as uniquely different.

The booth must be easy to set up and dismantle. Unions in cities where trade fairs take place have guidelines that must be followed. Union workers must be permitted to handle the installation and dismantling of the booths if they are on wheels, heavier than 75 pounds, and take longer than thirty minutes to assemble. The exhibitor will be held responsible for compensating the union workers for this service they are providing.

If an exhibitor elects to build their own booth they will be saving thousands of dollars. They will also have the opportunity to customize the look of the booth so that intrigued onlookers will have to stop and see more.

The skeletal booth consists of chairs, tables, at least one banner and holders for magazines, brochures, business cards etc. Screens are required to show a video or slide show. At least one computer is available for internet access. The more surfaces the better to accommodate samples, testimonial books, visitors' handbags, elbows, etc. The do it yourself booth builder can make these surfaces appealing by paint color, Formica or other surface treatments. A creative eye appealing exhibitor booth can be achieved for a fraction of what it would cost to purchase a unit.

The finishing touch is the lighting. Creative lighting can contribute greatly to the visual appeal of a display booth. When looking for a house to buy the buyers always look for curb appeal first. In a trade fair the attendee will be looking for this also. After hours of looking at booths their brain and eye become more discriminating and choose not to look at each booth that comes their way. The trade show booths that make them stop in their tracks are the ones that will have made a worthwhile investment in their eye candy approach.
