You should always arrive at your sessions prepared. If you are required to bring your own clothing, make sure it is clean and that it fits. If you will be supplied with clothing, wear something comfortable that is easy to change out of. Bring your own makeup unless you have been told a makeup artist will be onsite to help you prepare. It is always better to bring along items that are not needed than to be caught in need of something you do not have.
Make sure you have plenty of references from the people you will be working with. This is another important safety tip. It is best to do some research before arriving at a photo shoot. A professional photographer will do the same for you. Do not just show up and assume everything is safe. Make sure you know who you are working with, where the shoot will be and what it is for. When you book the shoot, get contact phone numbers and addresses. If a photographer is reluctant to give your business information, consider cancelling the shoot.
Make sure you know what to expect before arriving. It is perfectly acceptable for modeling jobs to require women to wear bikinis or lingerie. However, not all girls are prepared to do so. You need to know in advance what you will be wearing and what is expected of you. Many jobs are perfectly legit, but still require you to do more than you are prepared to do. Follow your gut, but know in advance what to expect. Nobody likes the idea of your backing out at the last minute, but you should never feel pressured.
Remember that modeling is a business. You might have to do some negotiating and you might hear a few things that make you feel uncomfortable. Your body is your business if you are modeling. If you were building a house, the future homeowner would want everything to look perfect. The same is true for photographers and those buying your photos. They expect their investment to look a certain way and you should try your best to not take their criticism personally.
