The design features are comprised of three basic components which are the bodice, sleeves, and a skirt. All of the design features are contained within these three elements. Let us start at the top with the bodice. The bodice can be loose or fitted. It can have boning to make it stand on its own and act as its own corset, or it can require some type of stabilizing undergarment. Currently, bodices are tight and fitted, showing off the waistline. It is difficult to find one that is not fitted with the skirt dropping off at the exact waistline.
This season, it is difficult to find styles without tight, fitted bodices. The neckline adds interest and most of them are heart-shaped. Sleeves are an option that are better left for winter wear because right now a majority of the designs are completely sleeveless with nothing above the bust line except the bride's beautiful shoulders and face. This style shows off the bride's face, focusing attention upward on her beautiful smile.
Differences in bodices are largely in embellishments, as many of them now offer a sweetheart neckline without sleeves. Bodices on many styles range from extravagant to simple, showing off the lines of the dress. The attachment to the skirt made include a lace to cover the opening, or it may include a pattern with a dripping of the fabric. The bodices of today's styles accentuate the curves and continue the line of the skirt, drawing the eye from the bottom to the top.
The skirt is the most unique part of the current fashion trends. Wedding dresses and wedding gowns generally have an A-line skirt that goes all the way to the floor. However, some brides are following a trend and wearing knee length or shorter dresses for their special day. There are a lot of choices available in the types, shapes and feel of the skirts of current fashion trends. Variety is the main feature of the skirts. The bodice reflects the bride's style in its intricacy and detail, rather than line this season. The skirt is the Prima Donna in wedding dresses and wedding gowns this season. Small trains are still in fashion, as are layers of great fabrics in silks and taffetas for a sophisticated look that is fit for royalty. Layers are popular feature in wedding dress fashion, many times with old fashioned lace peeking from beneath the drapes. Fishtail skirts and princess skirts can also be found walking down many church aisles. This gives it a more traditional look, but still with a modern flair. Regardless of your style, this season, the focus is on the skirt and there are many options to choose from this season.
